Masakazu Katsura was born in Fukai, Japan on December 10th 1962. As a young man he entered the Osamu Tezuka Manga contest and won first prize. From that win, he began a career as a manga author. In 1989 he produced his most famous work "Video Girl Ai" which spawned 15 manga tankoubons and a 6 episode anime series.
The success of that series brought Katsura many job opportunities, one of which was character designs for the anime "Iria: Zeiram the Animation." The sci-fi style of the designs inspired him on his next big project "DNA2" which was a 5 book series. The 15 episode anime remains as one of his most popular adaptations of his work.
